In 2011, the United Nations (UN) proclaimed the International Day of Friendship with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, and cultures can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. The UN wanted for the day to involve young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.
In Brazil, Uruguai and Argentina, the date is celebrated on June 20th, despite the suggestion of the General Assembly of the United Nations that all member countries celebrate it on July 30th. Here goes 5 ways to celebrate International Friendship Day : 1. Make and distribute friendship bracelets; 2. Write Thoughtful notes and messages; 3. Make or buy small gifts; 4. Spend some time with your friend(s); 5. Keep the spirit of Friendship Day all year. We also suggest that you do something to help other people in need (go to an elders’ caring house, visit an orphanage) and make new unexpected friends. Some students of the English Club CMRJ wrote messages to their friends here.
